The 6th XI is for players of all abilities. We play in East District 2 every Saturday and train on Thursday evenings. We take our hockey seriously and having finished near the top in East District 2 for last couple years, we are hoping to do better this season and win the league. We are a mix of freshers to fourth years and will always be seen after matches at Malones and Potterow and never fail to have the best turnout at Wednesday socials.

The mighty sixes continue to be a strong force in their competitive league finishing a comfortable 4th last season, despite a horrific start – losing 5 games out of their first 6. However with the Fresh finding their feet and the squad showing resiliency and determination even the higher teams would be proud of, we went over 10 games unbeaten to cement our place in the top half of the league. That being said, an ironic highlight was the 23-1 loss at end of the season against the league winners Dunfermline Carnegie 2’s; with six of the 6s touring hard in Salou and many back home for Easter.

This season the sixes aim to build on last season but know it won’t be easy, having lost Captain James Bromley (who has finally graduated) as well as club legends Edward Fyson and Ryan Lynch. New challenges await us with the 5s being demoted to our league, creating a mouth-watering couple of derby days for the club. If the 6s perform better than the 5s there’s a sure bet we’ll be campaigning for their BUCS spot.

However what the sixes are known for and always will be is our outstanding social presence within the club. With the big boys focusing on BUCS, the sixes take charge of the socials, holding the unquestionable status of best social side. A fact agreed upon by the men’s club and most definitely the women’s club (primarily thanks to serial womanisers Henry Melville and Connor Ovenstone).

In a club with seven men’s teams, the 6s continue to be one of the loudest voices around. The hockey will certainly be competitive with the added incentive of embarrassing the 5s. Yet for those looking for the edge off and to have a laugh with some quality gents, the 6s are sure to guarantee the best sports social experience around.

The 6s are a fun-loving approachable team who will leave you unable to wait any longer for the next Saturday. If you think you have what it takes, both on and off the pitch, then the 6s are the team for you.
