Scottish Cup: Semi-finalists

Following a successful season last year there was a large turnover of senior players with around half the team going onto graduate, the loss of many key players was always going to be difficult but the team rose to the challenge with many fresh faces stepping up.

On Saturdays we compete in the Scottish National League 1, our aim at the start of the year was to finish in the top 4 which would allow us to compete for European qualification. Unfortunately, we fell at the last hurdle suffering a frustrating 4-4 draw on the final day of the season to end a single point shy of the top four. This team has had great success in the Scottish Cup in recent years reaching the last three finals, this year we once again went far in the competition but lost in the semi-finals.

On Wednesdays we play in the BUCS North Prem B this year we had hoped to push on from last year’s second place finish to claim the title. But there was a high standard of competition this year with tough fixtures as far away as Birmingham and unfortunately, we finished runners up for the second year in a row. Next year there will be a restructuring of the BUCS leagues and we are keen to push on to first place and secure promotion to the National Premier BUCS league. Following a victorious cup run in the coveted BUCS trophy last year we sought to reclaim the title this year. A spirited cup run saw us beat Cambridge in the semi-final setting up a rematch of last year’s final with Cardiff University. In a hard-fought contest we sadly lost the final 3-1, but we aspire to build upon our success in the competition from the last few years and bring the trophy back to Edinburgh.

All-in-all, the year has been very successful and provides a great platform from which this team can build on next year. The team has embraced its role as a Performance Sports team whilst also enjoying the social side the club has to offer with a high attendance at all club socials.
